Art Projects & Soil Experiment

So this week Sarah Anne was learning about soil and the book suggested you have people from different areas send pictures of soil.  We took a step farther and called Grandma and Granddaddy (Georgia), Nana (SC), Aunt Betty (NC), Mamaw and Papaw (NC), Amy (TN), and Nanny and Bubby (SC).  So we practiced our phone skills and then compared the soil and created the "states" to compare how it was different inland and on the coast.  I have to say it was really fun and the girls loved comparing and collecting it.  Who knew dirt was so fun?

Also, we did our art project where we made bean mosaics.  They turned out cute also!

Sarah Anne was so meticulous and did an awesome pattern.

So cute!

We are still waiting on a few soil samples, but made some predictions of how it will look compared to what the soils from the same type of region were like!

Labor Day Weekend

Labor Day weekend we had big plans with my parents to come down and had lots of fun planned!  Around 2:30 Friday afternoon that quickly changed when they called and had broken down so our relaxing plans quickly went away, but it turned out to be fun.  We have awesome friends who let us borrow their truck to get all the stuff out of the truck (my parents were bringing a bookshelf and grill).  Everyone got here a few hours later than expected, but we ended up having a blast.  Matt and I were able to take a day trip to IKEA and get Becca a big girl bed! She is now a big girl and our baby crib is gone....  We also went to sweet Catherine's 1st birthday, the Chapin parade, and then the girls and I got a bonus trip to Charleston and Splash Zone on the very last day.  I am pretty sure the trip to Splash Zone is what sent Becca's clear runny nose into a full blown ear infection and sinus infection, but she is doing much better now!  She LOVES the kiddie slides at the Splash Zone and hopefully she will remember them next year and I won't have to fight her all summer to do them again.  So while it was not the Labor Day weekend we had planned, it ended up being a blast and we are so thankful that Nanny and Bubby were here to celebrate with us!

Look I can use this!
